A downloadable game for Windows

CONCEPT:

- Make a kitchen sink game that is a redo of previous failed work

- Incorporate some vampire survivor mechanics into the gameplay

WHAT WENT RIGHT:

I phoned this one in. I looked at everything I was making and…. I lost interest in the project. I could really push to get these pieces working, but I realized the little return I'd receive from building this. There wasn't a huge amount of new technologies or techniques I was experimenting with, and rehashing a bunch of failed projects didn't really inspire me to action.

WHAT WENT WRONG:

I burned out this week. There were a few ideas I've been kicking around for other business ideas and it consumed a lot of my thinking time. At the end of the day, the greatest value I have as a creator is to create things at scale to a large audience. Time spent as an organizer or community leader is time wasted. It's more efficient and better for me to operate my production business.

WHAT I LEARNED:

It's better to move on from ideas after you make them. Going back and rehashing previous work isn't as inticing or interesting as you think it is. Always move onto newer and better projects to tackle new and fresh ideas.

When something starts to feel like a chore, burn out is inevitable. I'm learning to follow my gut and instinct when I make these projects to stay on the tightrope balance of focus and serendipity.

Honestly, I can get lost in this game. The motion feels very fluid, graphics are nice and simple yet stunning. Flying through space with not a care in the world. I had fun moving diagonally as well. The red light is pretty mesmerizing and I got up in just staring at it while the stars pass by. A few shooting stars or meteors would have been cool to see.

It was great to hear how you made the game by moving the backgrounds rather than the player object. That's really good to know and makes me think of how it would apply to a horizontal or vertical shmup.

Sorry to hear about the burnout but yeah these game weeks can be intense and draining.

Can't wait to see what next you create whether prototype or production.
