A downloadable game for Windows

CONCEPT:

- Monster Hunter meets Metal Slug meets MGSV open world shooting!

- It's an infinite, wave based survival game where you take down as many metal slugs as you can before you die

- The game will use DDA (Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment) to dictate the wave compositions

- Use Platinum's difficulty ramping to structure the wave compositions

- Top Scores are saved on a local leaderboard

WHAT WENT WRONG:

I overestimated how much work I could get done and I spent almost all of my time resolving tech problems involving animation controllers and IK. Creating a robust animation system that can be reactive enough and still run smooth is a difficult task. If I had a few more days, I could really polish off that controller..

I spent too much time planning things that didn't even make it into the game, so that was a waste of time. Day 1 should've been spent on the player controller and enemy piece. I'm realizing that tech problems take time to resolve- and it's really hard to hack it out in a short period of time. A week is just enough time to handle a few medium tech solutions, or one really hard tech problem. The trick is to identify those mountains ahead of time and get started on them Day 1 (instead of on Friday in my case)

Oh and there was no time for audio. Again :( I'll get it next time.

WHAT WENT RIGHT:

In the final hour, enough elements came together :D I managed to create a pretty robust bullet system that is quite performant and efficient. I would love to revisit this and flesh out the gameplay loop now that enough base mechanics were working.

Also I'm happy with the particle system I created. It will definitely be reused in future projects.

WHAT I LEARNED:

Boil down the game into it's core problems and work on those first. Everything else doesn't matter if the core gameplay isn't working, so just focus on that first.

Also, don't even bother to do heavy lifting for architecture. Keep the software loose until it's working, then tighten it up.

I think the concept is amazing! I had a fun time running around the beautiful atmosphere. The movement of the main character was very fluid. I could just sit back and watch the worms go in and out of the ground shooting their particles all day. It was kind of relaxing.

The gun took a bit of time for me to control but I got the hang of it. The menu system looks great.

I think you created a new genre "RTPS" relaxing third-person shooter.
